Dear School Nurse Colleagues,

Welcome to the website for the Virginia Association of School Nurses. Here you will find information to assist Virginia's School Nurses such as professional educational opportunities, current news pertaining to school nurses, a timeline of significant VASN events, partners and sponsors, regional leadership and links to community resources.

On the VASN School Nurse Day at the General Assembly, January 30th, 2017, ten VASN Nurses joined together to represent the interests and advocacy for quality school and school nurses.  We are excited to welcome our new Legislative Committee Chair, Nurse Supervisor for Student Health Services from Chesterfield County Public Schools, Nick Oyler, BSN, RN. Welcome Nick! We are looking forward to you sharing your vision for VASN advocacy opportunities.

Please help me also welcome the new VASN Continuing Education Committee Chair, Resource Nurse for Student Health Services from Loudon County Public Schools, Kelly Thomas, BSN, RN, NCSN.  VASN is grateful for you sharing your time and expertise for this critical leadership role. The VASN is again working with the Virginia Department of Education to facilitate the opportunity for School Nurses to receive Nurse Contact Hours at the Summer Institute for School Nurses (SISN) July 9-13, 2017.

I hope you will be able to join us at SISN where VASN will again be hosting the Exhibitor Fair from 11:30 am to 6 pm on Tuesday, July 11th, followed by a Tea Party Social from 6 pm to 8 pm. Bring your fancy hat and plan to have a great time!

I wish to thank all of the VASN Members that have stepped into roles on the Executive Committee and their efforts to move the goals and opportunities for VASN and its membership forward, and collaborating with those stakeholders at the state and national level.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like more information concerning any open positions on the Executive Committee (Parliamentarian, Region 2 Co-Director, Region 3 Co-Director, Region 8 Co-Director, Professional Issues Chair, or Liaison for a number of non-profit partners).  In addition, please consider serving on a VASN action committee such as Annual Conference, Continuing Education, Finance, Legislative, Membership, Professional Issues, Resolutions and Policy, Marketing/Publicity, Technology and Newsletter, Technology, or Ways and Means.  I would be delighted to share a description of these committees which are listed online in the VASN handbook in the Members Only section of the VASN website.

Best Regards,
